2027: If a Vibrant Younger Candidate Emerges, I’m Willing to Step Aside — Atiku
Former Vice President and key member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has signaled his willingness to step aside in the 2027 presidential race for a younger candidate.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, Atiku said his interest in the 2027 election is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative to current leadership. He emphasized that he would fully support a younger, vibrant, and widely accepted candidate should one emerge under the ADC.
Atiku also encouraged young Nigerians to engage actively in politics, reiterating that his presence in the race does not prevent others from contesting. Addressing speculation about his motives, he dismissed claims of desperation, insisting his focus remains on rescuing the country from those he says have held it hostage.
“My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” Atiku stated.
