2027 Elections: “Obi’s People Came to Us, We Told Them Yes If He Joins” – SDP’s Agunloye
As political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olu Agunloye, has confirmed that loyalists of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have initiated talks with the SDP about a possible defection.
“Obi’s people came to us to say, ‘if Obi comes, would you take him?’ Of course, we told them yes,” Agunloye said during an interview on Channels Television. “But we made it clear—you can’t be in Labour and be telling us Obi is coming. You must first join SDP. Otherwise, we can’t open our doors for you.”
While Obi has not officially declared his intention to join the party, Agunloye noted that his supporters are already trying to prepare the ground for him within the SDP, as political figures begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.
