2027: El-Rufai Confirms Opposition Coalition Between Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has confirmed that a coalition involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is underway, with the goal of unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. Speaking at the Arewa TechFest in Katsina on Wednesday, El-Rufai disclosed that a crucial meeting of the opposition alliance was held in Abuja on Tuesday evening.
According to El-Rufai, the coalition has resolved to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official political platform. He emphasized that the coalition aims to send Tinubu “back to Lagos,” while noting that some current government officials, including Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, may be retained due to their performance.
“There was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos,” El-Rufai said. “Though we will still keep Bosun Tijani, because he is doing good work.”
Reports suggest that the decision to align under the ADC banner was finalized in a late-night meeting that stretched into the early hours of Wednesday, marking a significant step toward a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 elections.
