2021 Council Elections: Lagos PDP constitutes committees, releases timetable of activities and fees payable

The Office of the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has released a timetable of Political activities towards the 2021 Local Government Council  Elections.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission LASIEC had scheduled the Elections for Saturday 24th July 2021, into the offices of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councillors in the 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State.

It also released the total amounts payable by all concerned for LASIEC forms, Expression of Interest forms and Nomination forms.

The Party however clarified that payments for Expression of Interest forms of N30,000 and Nomination forms of N20,000 would be made by all male aspirants for the posts of Chairmen and Vice Chairmen.

All aspirants for Councillorship positions would pay N10,000 each for Expression of Interest forms and Nomination forms. While only those who come out tops at the respective primaries would go ahead to make payments for the LASIEC forms at N100,000 for Chairmen, N50,000 for Vice Chairmen and N30,000 for Councillors as reviewed by LASIEC.

All female aspirants in line with LASIEC directives would only be making payments for Expression of Interest forms at N25,000 for Chairmanship positions, N20,000 for Vice Chairmanship positions and N15,000 for Councillorship positions.

The released timetable states:

Friday 7th May 2021 – Commencement of Sales of Nomination forms

Friday 14th May 2021 – Last Day of Purchase of Nomination forms

Tuesday 18th May 2021 – Last Day of Submission of Nomination forms

Thursday 20th May 2021 – Screening of Aspirants

Friday 21st May 2021 – Screening Appeal

Tuesday 25th May 2021 – Ward Congresses/Councillorship Primaries

Wednesday 26th May 2021 – Appeal on Ward Congresses

Friday 28th May 2021 – LGA Congress/Chairmanship Primaries

Saturday 29th May 2021 – Appeal on Chairmanship Primaries

Monday 31st May 2021 – Submission of Names of Candidates to LASIEC

In a release signed by Engr Adedeji Doherty, the Chairman of the Lagos State PDP, it was stated that all aspirants are expected to present the receipt of payment or any verifiable evidence of payment of fees upon collection of nomination forms from their local government area chairmen/chairperson.

In the same vein and in a move to ensure success at the forthcoming elections, the Party also released a list of members who would serve in various committees towards the forthcoming 2021 Lagos State Local Council Elections.

These committees are:
-The Election Committee
-The Screening Committee and -The Committee on LASIEC.

The Election Committee is headed by Hon Setonji Koshedo a one-time State Chairman of the Party. He was also a member of the House of Representatives in the 5th National Assembly, where he served in various capacities, notably as the Chairman House Committee on Airforce. He was also at some point elected by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as member of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission.

The Screening Committee is headed by Barrister Folake Philips who presently serves as the State Auditor. She is an astute Politician who was a former member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), she is also a very active member of the Afenifere, a socio-cultural organization for Yoruba People of Nigeria.

The Committee on LASIEC comprises of the State Chairman – Engr Adedeji Doherty as Committee Chairman and Prince Muiz Dosunmu as Secretary.

It was also made known that other committees would be put in place in due course.
