20-Year-Old Killed in Delta State Home Robbery as Gunmen Transfer Funds to Account Linked to Prison Inmate
A 20-year-old man, Wisdom Odey, was shot and killed during a violent robbery at his home in Jeddo community, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State in the early hours of February 24, 2025. The attackers, believed to be armed robbers, reportedly transferred N250,000 from Odey’s mobile banking app and made away with 11 mobile phones during the incident.
According to a family source, Odey spotted the intruders trying to break into the house and immediately called his younger brother to help reinforce the door. The robbers forced open a small gap and fired a shot inside, hitting Odey. Despite being wounded, he attempted to resist but later died from his injuries.
Once inside, the attackers accessed Odey’s mobile banking application and transferred N250,000. They also stole multiple mobile phones that were being charged in the compound, as the house was the only one with power due to its generator during a blackout.
A security source revealed that investigators traced the transferred money to a PalmPay account, which has previously been linked to financial transactions originating from a prison facility in Warri. This development has raised suspicions that the recipient is an inmate possibly orchestrating crimes from behind bars with help from outside collaborators.
Community leaders have confirmed the incident, although details remain sketchy as investigations continue. However, the Delta State Police Command has denied receiving any official report. Police Public Relations Officer Edafe Bright said the community was contacted, but no one has come forward with information regarding the crime.
