“Anambra Has Recorded One Month Without a Single Gunshot or Killing” – Commissioner of Police

Anambra State has recorded an entire month without a single gunshot or killing, according to the State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu. Speaking on the progress made under his watch, the Commissioner described the achievement as a major milestone in the state’s ongoing battle against violent crime.

Orutugu, who hails from the Ijaw ethnic group, reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace in the state and warned that the era of unchecked violence must come to an end. He stated firmly that anyone responsible for the killing of police officers or innocent residents would face the full weight of the law.

“Every time, what we hear in Anambra is killings, kidnappings, and all sorts of crimes fueled by people we don’t know. Such a thing cannot continue under my watch,” Orutugu said.

He expressed pride in Anambra’s history of producing renowned figures such as Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie, and Emeka Anyaoku, stressing that the state deserves peace, not bloodshed.

Orutugu credited the recent calm to a combination of divine intervention, collaborative efforts among security agencies, and the cooperation of local communities. He also noted growing optimism regarding the gradual end of the Monday sit-at-home order, pointing to successful awareness campaigns and improved public confidence.

The Commissioner issued a stern warning to criminal elements still plotting attacks, declaring that they would be met with strong resistance. “Enough is enough,” he said, reiterating his resolve to protect the lives and property of Anambra residents.
