19-Year-Old Nigerian Artiste Beaten to Death in Ghana
A 19-year-old Nigerian artiste, Destiny, was beaten to death in the Volta Region of Ghana on May 28.
Destiny, originally from Edo State, was reportedly attacked by a group of men, including a fellow Nigerian based in Ghana who had earlier facilitated his relocation to the country. According to *Punch*, the assailants accused him of failing to remit funds related to a business venture they introduced him to.
The unnamed Nigerian and two others reportedly stormed Destiny’s apartment to confront him over the alleged missing funds. When he was unable to explain, they assaulted him until he became unresponsive.
A source told *Punch*, “Destiny went to Ghana to further his education, and the travel was facilitated by someone he called his street brother. These same people provided him with an apartment. They introduced him to a business and later accused him of diverting some of the funds. They became angry and went to his apartment, where they beat him severely. The beating was so intense that he collapsed and died in the process.”
The suspects allegedly left Destiny’s body in the apartment after realizing he was no longer moving. His remains were discovered by police officers several days later, after they were alerted to the incident.
“No arrests have been made since his death,” another source said. “We hope the Ghanaian authorities find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
In a video shared online, Destiny had spoken about his ambitions. “I am Destiny, and I am a streamer from Nigeria. I want to apply to Streamers University, and this will be a great joy for me, my mother, and everybody. I am also an artiste and a gamer. I do all sorts of things,” he said.
