10 Injured in Coordinated Attacks on PDP Wike Faction in Oyo
At least ten people were injured and several vehicles vandalised during local government congresses organized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Oyo State.
Oyo PDP is currently split into two factions, one supporting Wike and the other aligned with Governor Seyi Makinde. The Wike-led faction had scheduled its local government congresses for Saturday.
Reports indicate that suspected political thugs disrupted proceedings, attacking participants and damaging property in multiple areas, including Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Ibarapa Central, and Akinyele.
Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, chairman of the Wike faction, confirmed the attacks, noting that around ten people were assaulted and several vehicles were destroyed. “Our local government congresses were attacked across Oyo State. Three vehicles in Ibadan North at Gbolarumi House, Are Avenue, Bodija, were vandalised,” he said.
Former deputy governor and PDP chieftain Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi also confirmed the incident. He reported that attackers arrived in 15 buses and destroyed eight vehicles at his residence during the congress.
