You’re Irresponsible if You Can’t Afford Diesel After 24 Years as Speaker, Governor, Minister, APC Tells Amaechi

In a fiery press release, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has labeled former Minister of Transport and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, as irresponsible and unpatriotic for his recent comments criticizing the government and the high cost of living in Nigeria.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, issued the statement, accusing Amaechi of inciting unrest and attempting to manipulate public sentiment by calling for protests over economic conditions. Morka condemned Amaechi’s remarks, stating that despite his long tenure in public office, the former minister was now trying to stir discontent and provoke violence.

The party emphasized Amaechi’s substantial time in power, spanning over 24 years, where he served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of the state, and twice as Minister of Transport. The APC questioned how someone who allegedly benefitted from public office for so long could now claim he could not afford diesel, implying hypocrisy in his complaints about the nation’s economic state.

The APC also criticized Amaechi’s alignment with opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, accusing them of being bitter over their election losses. The statement highlighted that the discomfort Nigerians currently face is part of the necessary reforms undertaken by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which are aimed at long-term economic transformation.

The APC dismissed any calls for protests or unrest, describing such actions as reckless and politically motivated. The party urged Nigerians to remain patient, trust in the government’s reforms, and reject any attempts to incite violence or unrest for political gain.

The press release concluded with a plea for continued support for President Tinubu’s administration as it strives to deliver economic reforms that will benefit both current and future generations of Nigerians.
