You’re a Hypocritical Old Man Chasing Stomach Infrastructure,” Chidi Lloyd Tells Edwin Clark over Calls for Wike’s Arrest
In a swift reaction to Chief Edwin Clark’s call for the arrest of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, a close ally of Wike, has criticized the Ijaw leader’s remarks. Lloyd, who was recently ousted as Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, labeled Clark a “hypocritical old man” and accused him of being driven by personal interests.
Earlier, Clark had called on the Inspector-General of Police to arrest Wike, accusing him of inciting violence with his recent threat at the Rivers PDP Congress. Wike, while addressing the gathering, warned of his ability to destabilize any PDP state governor attempting to interfere in the Rivers State PDP structure. Clark condemned this as treasonous, alleging that Wike’s comments violated the law and disrespected President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him to his ministerial role.
Lloyd, in defense of Wike, dismissed Clark’s concerns, accusing the elder statesman of misinterpreting Wike’s words. He stated that Wike’s remarks were merely figurative and not a call to violence. “Wike’s comments were metaphorical. The real issue is Clark’s failure to understand that,” Lloyd said.
He further accused Clark of pursuing personal gains and questioned his credibility, citing Clark’s earlier opposition to Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara. “Clark is not even a member of the PDP,” Lloyd pointed out, suggesting that Clark’s continued attacks were rooted in envy of Wike’s political foresight and alignment with President Tinubu.
According to Lloyd, the real reason behind the recent criticisms of Wike is the former governor’s political success, which has earned him significant influence under the current administration. He concluded by advising Clark to focus on reconciling with those he had wronged instead of engaging in “garrulous” political commentary.
