“Your Enugu Visit Has Solidified Your Chances of Winning South-East Votes in 2027,” Okechukwu Tells Tinubu
Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Enugu State has significantly solidified his chances of securing votes from the South-East in the 2027 presidential elections. Okechukwu praised the President for taking the time to visit the region, a place where he received minimal support in the 2023 presidential election, and for making substantial promises that, if fulfilled, could earn him greater backing in the upcoming polls.
During his first official working visit to the South-East, President Tinubu commissioned a series of key projects initiated by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah. These included 30 smart green schools, 60 completed Type 2 primary health centres, and critical infrastructure upgrades such as the 19-kilometre Airport-New Haven–Bisalla and Okpara Square roads.
Okechukwu pointed to these actions as proof of Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the region’s infrastructural deficits and attracting investments. He emphasized that fulfilling these pledges, particularly the commitment to develop gas infrastructure and modernize security, would be a major boost to Tinubu’s popularity in the South-East ahead of the 2027 elections.
The President also met with South-East stakeholders during the visit, where he discussed critical national issues, including the removal of the petrol subsidy. He argued that the subsidy removal was necessary to build a sustainable future for the country and protect the interests of younger generations. Additionally, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s plans to support the development of the Anambra Basin, which holds significant energy potential, including an estimated 1 billion barrels of oil and 30 billion cubic feet of gas.
Tinubu’s visit also included assurances about completing key infrastructure projects, such as the Eastern Rail Line linking Port Harcourt to Maiduguri. He described these efforts as part of his broader strategy to modernize the country’s transport and energy sectors.
In a statement, Okechukwu commended the President for engaging directly with the region’s leadership and for the promises made to address its energy and infrastructure needs. He stated that the initiatives would undoubtedly strengthen Tinubu’s position in the South-East as he seeks re-election in 2027. Okechukwu concluded that the successful implementation of these promises would be instrumental in garnering support for Tinubu in the upcoming presidential race.
