“You Signed the Letters Yourself” — PDP Refutes Anyanwu’s Forgery Claim
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted allegations by its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, that his signature on official letters to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was forged or cloned. The party insisted that Anyanwu personally signed the documents in question.
Addressing journalists at the party’s national headquarters, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated that Anyanwu signed the letters himself in the presence of key party leaders, including PDP governors and members of the National Working Committee (NWC). According to Ologunagba, the signing took place just before the 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on August 25.
Ologunagba explained that during the NEC meeting, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, informed attendees that the letters had been duly signed by both the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun, and Senator Anyanwu.
He listed those present at the time of signing to include Governors Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, as well as former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Ologunagba urged investigative authorities and Nigerians to verify the facts by asking those present whether Anyanwu indeed signed the letters in their presence. He described the forgery allegation as part of a plot by certain individuals within the party to obstruct the forthcoming PDP national convention scheduled for November.
