“You Can’t Cry Foul Now”: PDP Tells APC to Manage Consequences of Wike Alliance

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed complaints by the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the actions of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying the ruling party must accept responsibility for its political choices in Rivers State.

The PDP said the APC has no basis to object to Wike’s conduct, stressing that he is no longer a member of the opposition party and was knowingly engaged by the APC for political advantage.

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, reacted to the ongoing public disagreement between Wike and the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, over political developments in Rivers State.

Ememobong said Wike was expelled from the PDP alongside his supporters and accused the APC of attempting to distance itself from a political relationship it previously embraced.

He noted that the APC cannot benefit from its association with Wike when it suits its interests and then raise objections when the situation becomes uncomfortable.

“The APC National Secretary may be relying on outdated information about Wike’s status in the PDP. Wike was expelled from our party, and that is why we sympathise with the situation the APC has brought upon itself by engaging someone they now find difficult to disown, either morally or legally,” Ememobong said.

He added that the APC should manage the political consequences of its decisions, insisting that the PDP should not be drawn into a dispute it has no control over.

According to him, the conduct now being criticised by the APC was previously applauded when it appeared to favour the ruling party.

“When these actions worked in the APC’s favour, there were no complaints. The same conduct is now being questioned simply because it has become inconvenient,” he said.

Ememobong also rejected claims that the PDP was being selective in its criticism, stating that the party has consistently spoken out against anti-party activities, regardless of political alignment.

“As a citizen and as PDP spokesperson, when someone aligns with another party or engages in actions that undermine party discipline, it is right to speak out. That position has not changed,” he said.

He maintained that any political advantage derived from Wike’s actions accrued solely to the APC and that the ruling party must now deal with the fallout.

“The APC benefited from this arrangement. What they are experiencing now is the outcome of their own decisions, and they must take responsibility for it,” Ememobong said.
