“You Cannot Win Presidential Election with Sympathy Votes” – DeeOne Criticizes Peter Obi’s Campaign Strategy
Ex-Big Brother Naija contestant and comedian DeeOne has publicly criticized former Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi for what he describes as a reluctance to invest financially in his political ambitions.
In a viral Instagram video on Saturday, DeeOne responded to the creation of the City Boy Movement, a pro-President Bola Tinubu group formed by Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu. Notably, the movement includes several former supporters of Peter Obi as coordinators and directors in South-East states.
DeeOne urged Obi to rethink his campaign approach, arguing that relying on sympathy votes will not be sufficient in the 2027 presidential election. He highlighted that during the 2023 election, some Labor Party polling agents received support from rival parties to meet basic needs such as food and water.
“Presidential elections are not won with sympathy alone,” DeeOne said. “If Peter Obi does not invest in his own political ambition, he should at least seek transparent contributions from supporters to fund campaign logistics.”
He compared the approach to international examples, noting that in the last U.S. election, Donald Trump spent $66 million of personal funds. DeeOne warned that dismissing emerging political movements like the City Boy Movement could be a strategic mistake, emphasizing that effective campaigning requires tangible resources and engagement on the ground.
