Yilwatda, Basiru Return as APC National Chairman and Secretary

Nentawe Yilwatda and Ajibola Basiru have been returned as national chairman and national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the party’s fourth elective national convention held on Friday at Eagle Square.

Both officials emerged unopposed after delegates adopted consensus arrangements backed by the party’s leadership structure. Their return followed the APC’s decision to maintain its existing zoning framework for national working committee positions.

The party had earlier confirmed that the zoning arrangement for its National Working Committee (NWC) offices would remain in place for the convention cycle. In a statement issued by national publicity secretary Felix Morka, the party said the structure guiding the allocation of offices across geopolitical zones remained valid and binding for aspirants.

Under the arrangement, stakeholders were directed to align with agreed zonal distributions ahead of the convention. This approach shaped the outcome of several key positions, including the chairmanship and secretary roles.

The convention, themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” drew senior political figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.

The event was coordinated by a planning committee chaired by former Katsina State governor Aminu Masari, alongside former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Anyim Pius Anyim.

According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, about 8,453 delegates took part in the convention, which produced other national working committee members alongside the top leadership positions.
