Yahaya Bello Breaks Silence on Rumors of 2027 Showdown with Tinubu
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has declared he will not contest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, reaffirming his full support for the President’s re-election bid.
In a statement issued by Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, Bello praised Tinubu’s leadership and achievements, despite global challenges. “On merit, he deserves the support of well-meaning Nigerians,” the statement read.
Bello dismissed recent speculation suggesting he is preparing for a presidential run in 2027, calling it baseless. The speculation followed the circulation of an old photo from a 2022 rally, which some blogs falsely presented as a current event. The media office criticized what it described as the work of “witless bloggers” and “frustrated detractors” attempting to sow discord between Bello and the President.
“Our attention has been drawn to another senseless post by mischief makers, who have no other job than to fabricate falsehood and disseminate same to mislead unsuspecting Nigerians,” the statement noted. It emphasized that the rally photos being recirculated clearly show a 2022 date and should not be misinterpreted.
Bello’s team reiterated his loyalty to President Tinubu and advised Nigerians to disregard misleading reports suggesting otherwise.
