Workers to Nigerians: Anyone Against August 1 Protest is your Enemy
In a statement released on Monday, Nigerian workers under the All Workers Convergence (AWC) have branded individuals opposing the upcoming nationwide protest as enemies of the people. The planned protest, scheduled to commence on August 1, aims to address the pressing issues of hunger, bad governance, and insecurity affecting the nation.
The AWC, led by National Coordinator Comrade Andrew Emelieze, emphasized that protesting against the dire conditions in Nigeria is a fundamental right and a necessary response to the current crisis. The group condemned any resistance to the protest, asserting that those opposing it are obstructing the fight for justice and better governance.
The workers’ group highlighted that the protest is a direct reaction to the widespread hardship and hunger inflicted by the prevailing governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They criticized the government for failing to address the economic and social challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians, while a small elite continues to thrive.
AWC’s statement declared, “We are in full support of calls for massive protest to end hunger, hardship, and bad governance. In our current situation, protest is a collective duty and not participating is antisocial.”
The group called for unity among protest organizers and reiterated their commitment to the cause. They framed the protest as a revolution against corruption and exploitation, asserting that anyone opposing this movement is hindering Nigeria’s path to transformation.
“We will not sit idly by as conditions worsen. Our leaders have mocked governance, and we cannot accept this any longer,” the statement concluded. “This protest is our stand against deprivation and a step toward genuine change. No retreat, no surrender.”
