Woman Allegedly Murders Husband, Buries Him Under Bedroom Floor

A quiet village in Buhweju district, Uganda has been shaken by the shocking revelation that a 43-year-old woman, Sharon Nshemereirwe, allegedly murdered her husband and buried his body beneath their bedroom floor. The incident occurred in Kaniga I village, Rwengwe subcounty, where residents are still coming to terms with the gruesome discovery and the secrets it has uncovered.

Nshemereirwe is accused of killing her husband, Beinomugisha, a builder and businessman, in their mud-and-wattle home on the night of April 13, 2025. Police reports suggest she struck him in the head with a hammer while he slept, then wrapped his body in bedsheets, a blanket, and tarpaulin before burying him in a shallow grave under the bedroom floor. She later covered the grave with more tarpaulin and locked the room, choosing instead to sleep in the sitting room just meters away from the hidden burial site.

For weeks, Nshemereirwe maintained that her husband had traveled to South Sudan for construction work, telling friends and relatives that he was away earning money for the family. However, suspicions mounted when he remained unreachable and family members began asking questions. Investigations intensified, eventually leading to Nshemereirwe’s confession. She reportedly broke down and told one of her siblings, who then alerted authorities.

According to police, five people had been living in the house at the time of the incident: Nshemereirwe, her husband, their 13-year-old son Silver Beinomugisha, a nine-year-old daughter with a mental disability, and a newborn baby. On the day of the murder, Nshemereirwe allegedly sent her son away after school, instructing him to stay at the family’s roadside shop.

When police arrived at the scene, they also found 33-year-old Caroline Kansiime in the home. Nshemereirwe initially claimed Kansiime was a maid, but Kansiime stated she was visiting after being introduced by her sister in Kampala. Kansiime further revealed that Nshemereirwe was breastfeeding a three-week-old baby, though it was unclear who the child’s mother was. At Beinomugisha’s funeral, a relative, Federiko Mubangizi, claimed the baby belonged to Nshemereirwe and said she had hidden the pregnancy. He pointed to a scar on her stomach as evidence.

Michael Tindyebwa, the local village chairperson, said Beinomugisha had expressed doubts about the baby’s paternity and had frequent arguments with Nshemereirwe, including disputes over money and a possible land sale. Local council leader Frank Mukama urged police to fully investigate the matter, citing concerns about land Beinomugisha allegedly sold before his death. Tindyebwa confirmed the sale but said the buyer remains unknown.

Greater Bushenyi regional police spokesperson Martial Tumusiime confirmed that Beinomugisha’s body was exhumed on April 31 following a court order and a post-mortem examination was conducted. The case has left the community stunned, with many calling for a thorough investigation to uncover the full story behind the murder.

Beinomugisha is survived by eight children from three different relationships. At the time of his death, he was reportedly helping lay tiles at a local church.
