“With What Is Happening in Nigeria?” Adeboye Asks as He Lightheartedly Rejects Prayer to Live to 120

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has humorously declined prayers for him to live up to 120 years. Speaking during a recent sermon, Adeboye shared a moment where his followers offered a series of birthday blessings, hoping he would reach increasingly advanced ages. While he welcomed prayers for 80 and 90 years, he remained notably quiet when 100 was mentioned.

The moment took a light-hearted turn when one enthusiastic congregant prayed for him to live to 120. Adeboye, with a chuckle, responded, “Na lie!” questioning what he could have possibly done to warrant staying on Earth for that long, especially amid the daily struggles faced by Nigerians. He painted a vivid picture of life’s unpredictability, referencing erratic power supply and other day-to-day hardships.

The exchange didn’t end there. Another worshipper, even more enthusiastic, prayed that the revered pastor live to 140. Adeboye responded with finality and a dose of humour: “No be me.”
