Why Wike, Others Were Not Sanctioned at NEC Meeting – PDP Reps Caucus Chairman
Chairman of the South-South Caucus of the House of Representatives, Hon. Fred Agbedi, has explained why former Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, and others were not sanctioned at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday.
Agbedi noted that Wike is not the only party member engaging in anti-party activities, pointing out that some leaders are still openly supporting the incumbent government. He emphasized that the PDP is aware of the crisis within its ranks and is focused on resolving it.
The lawmaker expressed optimism about the party’s future, saying there are clear signs that the PDP will emerge stronger, more united, and better organized ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing internal conflicts and anti-party behavior among some governors elected under the PDP platform, Agbedi said the party is prioritizing restructuring over punishing individuals. “It’s not about Wike alone. There are others who have acted against the party, openly supporting other candidates. But PDP is focused on resolving its current crisis and will not be chasing those people,” he said.
He added that the party is carefully considering its decisions to ensure they are strategic and sustainable. “The priority of PDP is not to drive anyone out. We are taking note of actions that threaten the party, and appropriate measures will be taken at the right time,” Agbedi concluded.
