Why PDP Will Place Fourth in 2027 Presidential Election – Fayos

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has predicted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will place fourth in the 2027 general elections, citing internal divisions and the sidelining of key party figures as reasons for its decline.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today aired by Channels Television, Fayose said the PDP has lost its structure and is no longer a formidable opposition force. According to him, the party has been weakened by infighting and leadership struggles, leading to the departure of influential members and a collapse of unity at the grassroots level.

“You know the situation of our party today, and it is my prayer that the PDP does not come fourth in the coming elections,” Fayose said. “The party is already going into carcass. Managing the party has become a major issue, and everyone is now acting independently.”

He accused the PDP of sidelining long-standing members and said many leaders have either been pushed out or left due to the poor handling of internal affairs. Fayose, who was part of the G5 group that opposed the party’s leadership in the last election cycle, pointed out that the PDP’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, along with several senators and governors, have already exited the party.

The former governor also addressed his absence from the party’s last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, stating that although he was invited, he chose not to attend due to being sidelined in party matters.

Fayose further stirred controversy by suggesting that President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may offer the most strategic route for the north to regain power after Tinubu’s tenure. Recalling a past conversation with the president, he said Tinubu once told him that “the shortest distance between the north and the south is the APC.”

Fayose explained that Tinubu’s remark implied a tactical political path, where the presidency would return to the north after a southern tenure under the APC, a possibility he claimed the PDP’s zoning arrangements might complicate.

Despite his criticisms, Fayose maintained that he has not formally left the PDP but is keeping his political options open.
