Why I Want to Be Anambra Governor – George Moghalu

Dr. George Moghalu, former Managing Director and CEO of the Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has officially declared his intention to run for the governorship of Anambra State in 2025. Moghalu made this announcement at his country home in Nnewi, dispelling rumors surrounding his recent departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his political ambitions.

There had been speculations that Moghalu left the APC for the Labour Party (LP) after receiving a promise from a key leader in the LP to secure the party’s governorship ticket for him. However, Moghalu refuted these claims, stating that his exit from the APC was a matter of principle, not opportunism.

“I did not leave the APC to contest for the Senate or to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, even though we are from the same district,” Moghalu clarified. “I am qualified for any elective position, but my focus is the governorship.”

Moghalu was critical of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, calling his administration a failure and highlighting what he described as the collapse of infrastructure and security in the state. “We need to redeem Anambra fast because Soludo has failed the people. There is a dearth of infrastructure, and security has collapsed. What he couldn’t achieve in four years, he will not achieve in eight,” Moghalu said.

In his statement, Moghalu confirmed his recent move to the Labour Party, following consultations with his family and supporters. “I consulted my wife and children, my followers, friends, and associates. I am convinced that the Labour Party is the platform that aligns with my person and the best suited for realizing my ambition.”

He also addressed concerns about zoning arrangements, which favor the southern region of Anambra, where Soludo currently serves. Moghalu promised to serve only one term if elected, ensuring that the zone’s turn would be honored.
