‘When did I join your party?’ — Yemi Adamolekun questions inclusion in ADC manifesto panel

Opeyemi Adamolekun, former executive director of Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria, has queried her inclusion in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) policy and manifesto committee, saying she is not a member of the party.

The ADC recently published a list of individuals appointed to its “50 wise men and women policy/manifesto committee,” with Adamolekun listed as number 18.

In a circular signed by Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national publicity secretary, the ADC named John Oyegun, former governor of Edo state, as chairman of the committee; Pat Utomi, professor of political economy, as deputy chairman; and Salihu Lukman as secretary.

According to the party, the committee will be responsible for drafting the ADC’s policy framework and manifesto ahead of the 2027 general election.

The circular stated that the appointments followed a resolution of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and were approved by the national chairman, Senator David A. B. Mark. The inauguration of the committee is scheduled for February 2 at the ADC national secretariat in Abuja.

However, Adamolekun reacted publicly to the announcement, expressing surprise at her inclusion and questioning the party’s process.

In a post on X on Wednesday, she asked the ADC to provide evidence of her membership, describing the move as a credibility lapse.

“ADC! ADC!! ADC!!! How many times did I call you? This is not how to build credibility. Please show me evidence of when I joined your party!! Na wa,” she wrote.

In June 2025, several opposition figures — including Atiku Abubakar, a former vice-president; Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate; and Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers state — adopted the ADC as a political platform, with the stated aim of unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
