What I Discussed with President Tinubu — Kano Governor
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has explained the issues he raised during his meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
The meeting had generated speculation after both parties initially declined to comment. However, details emerged on Tuesday through the governor’s media adviser, Sunusi Bature.
According to Bature, Governor Yusuf requested the President’s support to accelerate federal projects in Kano and to ensure the state benefits fully from ongoing federal programmes and investments. He also briefed President Tinubu on the recent killing of a housewife and her children in Kano, stressing the need for stronger federal support to improve security and protect civilians.
The governor highlighted the work of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps, noting its role in supporting conventional security agencies. He called for closer coordination between the corps and federal security institutions. Yusuf also outlined Kano’s development priorities, with emphasis on large-scale infrastructure projects.
Bature said the governor expressed appreciation to the President for the Federal Government’s intervention on the Wujuwuju Road project, describing it as important for economic activity and job creation in the state.
He added that President Tinubu assured the Kano governor of the Federal Government’s commitment to working with the state to address insecurity and promote sustainable development.
Meanwhile, there are indications of political realignment by the Kano governor. Sources told *The Nation* that Governor Yusuf has removed the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) flags from key locations within the Government House, suggesting he is no longer aligned with the party.
It was gathered that Yusuf has completed consultations across party and government structures, with reported support from all 44 local government chairmen and the 40 members of the Kano State House of Assembly. He is said to be awaiting a follow-up engagement with the President ahead of a planned defection rally.
“There is no going back,” a close associate of the governor was quoted as saying.
