“We’ll Retrieve the Mandates” — PDP Vows Legal Action After Oborevwori’s Defection to APC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to take legal action following the defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and several party stakeholders to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to journalists in Abuja after the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Tuesday, PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagun confirmed that the party’s national legal adviser has been directed to initiate steps to reclaim what he described as “mandates taken away.”
The defection, which was formalised on Monday, has prompted the PDP to dissolve all its structures in Delta State. In the interim, the south-south zonal caretaker committee will take charge of party affairs in the state until a new leadership is constituted.
“We also instructed the national legal adviser to recover our mandate that they have taken away,” Damagun said, expressing the party’s resolve not to let its fortunes be determined by those he described as adversaries.
While calling for calm among party members, Damagun emphasized that the upcoming 2027 presidential election would be a contest between the people of Nigeria and the APC, urging the PDP faithful to stay focused despite recent setbacks.
