“We’ll Get Him Soon”: Nigeria’s Defence Chief Vows to Capture Bandit Leader, Bello Turji
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has pledged to capture the notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, who has been terrorizing parts of northern Nigeria. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Musa expressed confidence that Turji’s reign of terror will soon come to an end.
Turji recently made headlines after allegedly seizing two mine-resistant vehicles belonging to the Nigerian Army, a claim the military has refuted, citing mechanical failures caused by the rough terrain. In addition, the bandit leader has reportedly imposed a N30 million levy on residents of Zamfara State, demanding compensation for the killing of his associates by soldiers.
General Musa assured that the military is working to address the levy imposed on the Zamfara residents and reiterated his commitment to capturing Turji. He described the bandit leader as a “deranged individual” who mistakenly believes he holds power.
“On the issue of Turji, he is just a deranged individual who feels powerful, but I can bet you that it’s only a matter of time. We’re going to get him, and I can assure you it will be within the shortest possible time,” Musa stated.
He emphasized that Turji and his group are driven by desperation and rely on extorting locals to survive. “Even when they get the money, they have no way to use it. They know it’s blood money,” the CDS added.
