We’ll Begin Removing Beggars from Abuja on Monday – Wike

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced that it will begin clearing beggars from the streets of Abuja starting Monday, October 27, 2024. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike issued a stern warning to individuals begging on roadsides, noting that their presence poses a security threat to the city.

Wike made the statement during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of access roads to new judges’ quarters in the Katampe district of the capital. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that the increasing number of beggars in the FCT is alarming and must be addressed promptly.

The minister also recalled his recent action to revoke Julius Berger’s land allocation in Katampe, further stressing his commitment to improving the capital’s infrastructure and security.

The flag-off event for the construction of 40 new judges’ quarters was attended by prominent legal figures, including Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun and President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem. Wike revealed that 70% of the funding for the project had already been released, following approval by the Federal Executive Council last month. The 40 units will be distributed among the FCT High Court, Federal High Court, and the Court of Appeal.
