Road Crash: All 19 Passengers Perish in Abuja-Bound Vehicle

At least 19 passengers lost their lives near the Hawan Kibo area of Riyom Local Government in Plateau State. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday and has shocked residents and authorities alike.

Hawan Kibo, a well-known transit point situated approximately 60 kilometers from Jos, the Plateau State capital, is notorious for frequent accidents due to the poor condition of the road.

Peter Yakubu, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau, confirmed the heartbreaking news, revealing that all passengers aboard the ill-fated vehicle perished in the crash. “Eighteen people died on the spot, while one individual who was rushed to the hospital succumbed shortly after,” Yakubu said.

Medical personnel at Riyom Trauma Hospital, where the bodies were initially taken, described the scene as harrowing. “All the victims brought in had already passed away, and some bodies were severely mutilated, making identification difficult,” a hospital staff member shared. Due to power outages in the Riyom area, the corpses were later transferred to a mortuary in Jos.

The vehicle was reportedly en route from Adamawa State to Abuja when the accident occurred. Hawan Kibo’s notorious road conditions have been the cause of numerous accidents over the years, prompting growing concern and demands for urgent intervention from citizens.
