“We Want to Use Anambra to Test What 2027 Will Be” – Labour Party Chairman
Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, has declared that the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State will serve as a test run for the party’s anticipated victory in the 2027 presidential election. The election, scheduled for November, is being viewed as a crucial milestone in Labour Party’s broader political strategy.
Speaking in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, on Sunday, Abure made this statement through the party’s National Women Leader, Mrs. Dudu Manuga, during a forum organized by the Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI). The event provided an opportunity for party aspirants to engage with their delegates ahead of the primary election set for Saturday.
Abure emphasized that Labour Party had grown beyond its previous status as a minor entity, affirming its presence across all Nigerian states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He urged party members to remain united, stressing that internal disputes should not arise after the primary election. According to him, the collective goal should be to win the main election in November and lay the groundwork for a larger victory in 2027.
He further highlighted the significance of the forum, describing it as a platform to foster engagement between aspirants and the people they aim to govern. He expressed confidence that Labour Party would strengthen its presence at every polling unit across the state, reinforcing its strategy for future electoral success.
Among the aspirants who attended the event were Dr. George Moghalu and Mr. John Nwosu. In his address, Moghalu pinpointed a loss of public confidence in the government as a major issue in Anambra State. He criticized the current state of security and tax enforcement, noting that citizens should not be coerced into paying taxes if the government is functioning effectively. He suggested that a transparent and electronic tax collection system would enhance compliance and governance efficiency.
As the Labour Party gears up for its primary election, stakeholders remain optimistic about their chances in the November polls, seeing it as a crucial step toward achieving broader national influence in 2027.
