We Never Endorsed Peter Obi for 2027 Elections, Twitter Handle Unknown to Us – ZLP
The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has refuted claims that it has endorsed Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, dismissing the reports as “mere rumors and figments of the imagination of the peddlers.”
In a statement released on Sunday evening and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Khalid Arewa, the ZLP clarified its stance and denied any association with the alleged endorsement. The statement, made available to journalists in Abuja, emphasized that the party had not offered Peter Obi a free ticket for the upcoming election, countering claims circulating on social media.
“ZLP wishes to address a misleading publication circulating on various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), which falsely attributes to our party an offer of a free ticket to Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election,” the statement read.
The party also distanced itself from the social media account responsible for the misinformation, stating, “The said handle where this misleading information was posted is unknown to us. We do not control that account, nor do we have any association with its handlers.”
Reaffirming its position, the party stressed that its leadership and decision-making processes are guided by its constitution, principles, and values. “We categorically deny this claim in its entirety and affirm that the statement does not reflect the views, decisions, or position of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP),” the statement continued.
Furthermore, the ZLP stated that it had not yet commenced discussions with any individuals or groups regarding the 2027 presidential election. It described the report as “a big lie from the pit of hell” and warned those spreading false information to desist or risk facing legal consequences.
“The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) is a responsible and law-abiding political party committed to promoting democracy, good governance, and the well-being of all Nigerians,” the statement added. The party urged the public to disregard the misinformation and rely only on official statements issued through its authorized channels.
