“We Didn’t Anoint Any Aspirant Ahead of April 5 Primary” — APC NWC

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that it has not endorsed any aspirant ahead of the party’s primary election scheduled for April 5 in Anambra State.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held Tuesday in Abuja, the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, emphasized that the NWC’s role is to create a conducive environment for a fair and transparent primary, not to influence its outcome. Ganduje likened the committee to catalysts in a chemical reaction—facilitators rather than participants—adding that the NWC is committed to allowing the democratic process to take its course.

“We are not in conflict with any of you. Our only objective is to have one of you emerge as our candidate,” he stated.

He urged all seven aspirants vying for the party’s ticket to unite and support whoever emerges as the flagbearer, stressing the importance of solidarity to challenge the incumbent government effectively. Ganduje warned against internal divisions, legal battles, or lukewarm participation, saying that unity and active involvement are crucial for electoral success.

“It is not easy to win an election against an incumbent government. It requires strategic political calculation, and cooperation is key,” he said. “We support all of you equally. You are all our children. Once a candidate emerges, we expect every one of you to become foot soldiers for the party.”

He also cautioned against stereotyping any candidate and referenced past internal crises, notably the party’s experience with Andy Uba, which he said should not be repeated.

Earlier in the meeting, Anambra State APC Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, praised the party’s national leadership for convening the dialogue, describing it as a positive and timely move in the lead-up to the primaries.
