We Are Fully Prepared to Withstand Sabotage, Ambitions – Malami on ADC Coalition

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has declared that the newly formed political coalition gearing up for the 2027 general elections is fully prepared to withstand internal sabotage, infiltration, and the challenge of personal ambitions among its members.

Speaking in an interview published by *Daily Trust*, Malami acknowledged that sabotage and betrayal are common risks in any political alliance. However, he expressed confidence that the coalition—recently unified under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform—has the structure and resolve to overcome any threat that may arise.

“In a political arrangement, you cannot rule out any possibility, including the possibility of infiltration,” Malami said. “But one fundamental thing is, we are resolved to continue, we shall continue, and we shall overcome. We are working to overcome any challenge as it arises.”

The coalition, which aims to pose a formidable challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, is already navigating the complexities of internal dynamics. Malami, who served in the cabinet of former President Muhammadu Buhari, highlighted the susceptibility of coalitions to crisis and the disruptive influence of individual ambitions.

“You cannot rule out the possibility of a crisis, you cannot rule out the possibility of infiltration, nor can you rule out all other negative possibilities,” he said. “We are resolved to overcome them. We work in the direction of overcoming them. That is the most fundamental and critical issue about it.”

When asked if personal ambitions might derail the coalition’s progress, Malami conceded that ambition is a natural element of political life, but stressed the importance of internal discipline and strategic management.

“Political engagement includes personal ambitions. But the most important thing is how hard you work in managing them,” he explained. “We cannot rule out that possibility because political engagement is about ambitions. And ambitions are meant to be managed, and we are resolved to manage them as they arise.”
