VP Shettima: President Tinubu Is Not in Power for Money; He Has Only One Wristwatch, and I Even Dress Better Than Him
Vice-President Kashim Shettima expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that his leadership is driven by a desire to create lasting change rather than personal wealth accumulation.
Speaking at the launch of a book titled “Navigating the Politics of Universal Education Policies in Nigeria” by retired Professor Modupe Adelabu of Obafemi Awolowo University, Shettima underscored Tinubu’s character and vision for Nigeria. According to a report from Punch, he noted, “He is in power to leave landmarks in the sands of time. He is the most demonised politician in Nigeria.”
Shettima contrasted Tinubu’s lifestyle with public expectations, revealing that his own residence in Maiduguri surpasses the president’s house in Bourdillon. “The first time I went to his house at Bourdillon, I was looking forward to seeing a mansion comparable to Buckingham Palace, with gardens, and swimming pools, but there was nothing special about that house,” Shettima recounted.
He also shared anecdotes illustrating Tinubu’s simplicity, such as his preference for basic meals and a single wristwatch. “Since I have known him, he has been using only one wristwatch, and in fact, I dress better than him,” he added, highlighting Tinubu’s focus on governance over personal extravagance.
Addressing Nigeria’s economic situation, Shettima acknowledged the challenges inherited from previous administrations but credited Tinubu with taking bold measures to stabilize the economy. “We are now exporting about 1.7 million barrels of oil per day; the naira is stabilising against the dollar,” he noted, calling for collective support to tackle food security and security issues in the country.
