Vivek Ramaswamy Withdraws from Presidential Race, Throws Support Behind Trump
Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has officially exited the 2024 race after securing the fourth position in the Iowa caucuses. The dynamic 38-year-old entrepreneur, known for his skepticism towards NATO and vocal opinions on US international involvement, announced the suspension of his campaign during a Monday address to supporters in Des Moines.
Ramaswamy acknowledged the lack of momentum in his campaign, stating, “There’s no path for me to be the next president absent things that we don’t want to see happen in this country.” Despite the setback, he revealed his endorsement for former President Donald Trump, hailing him as the sole “America First candidate” and expressing congratulations on Trump’s landslide victory in Iowa.
Trump, who claimed a commanding 51% of the vote, received Ramaswamy’s full endorsement for the presidency. The former president’s triumph in the caucuses positioned him ahead of other contenders, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley.
Ramaswamy’s campaign drew attention for his unconventional viewpoints, advocating for the US withdrawal from NATO and reevaluating the nation’s involvement in the UN. Additionally, he raised eyebrows by suggesting that the January 6 Capitol riot was an “inside job” orchestrated by federal agents.
While Ramaswamy’s bid for the Republican nomination faced slim odds, political observers speculate that he might find a role in Donald Trump’s future administration, given their shared skepticism towards NATO, as reported by Politico earlier this month.
