Violence Erupts in Kano as Filling Station and NCC Complex Set Ablaze, One Dead
One person, identified as Ismael Ahmad Musa, has been killed and several others injured following violent incidents in Hotoro, Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State. Musa, a resident of Hotoro Danmarke, was confirmed dead by his brother Mubarak on Thursday. His body has been buried according to Islamic rites.
The unrest reportedly began with protests that escalated, leading to further violence. A second individual, critically injured, is receiving treatment at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), reportedly from a stray bullet.
The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) office in Kano has been set on fire by unknown assailants. The newly constructed building was slated for inauguration next week.
Witnesses report that a large group of youths armed with weapons has taken over major roads in Kano, contributing to widespread chaos. In the Hotoro area, businesses including a filling station and a Rufaida shop were also destroyed by fire.
Residents are calling for urgent intervention from authorities to restore order and ensure the safety of the community. Isa Musa from Charanchi, Gwale Local Government Area, described the current situation as a grave threat to public safety, urging for increased police presence to manage the escalating violence and secure the city.
