Kano Woman Dies After Delivering Quintuplets in Ninth Childbirth
A woman, Hafsat Yusuf, has died hours after giving birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
Her husband, Salisu Nafiu, confirmed the development on Thursday, saying she passed away at about 1:00 a.m. at the hospital. He did not disclose the cause of death.
The quintuplets—three boys and two girls—are alive and currently receiving medical care at the facility.
Daily Trust had earlier reported that Yusuf delivered the babies via Caesarean section at around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nafiu, a tricycle rider, had expressed relief following the delivery, describing it as his wife’s ninth childbirth. He also noted that medical staff were closely monitoring the newborns.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has announced that it will assume full responsibility for the quintuplets’ healthcare. The state Ministry of Health said the decision forms part of broader efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes and reduce mortality rates.
