Video: ‘I Will Restore Peace in South-East if Freed,’ – Nnamdi Kanu

In a dramatic courtroom scene on Tuesday, Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), unleashed scathing allegations against government officials, accusing them of capitalizing on the pervasive insecurity plaguing the South-East region of Nigeria.

Denied bail by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja, Kanu seized the opportunity to address the press, vehemently asserting that the restoration of peace in the South-East hinges on his release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

“I suspect that some people in government are complicit. They are making money with this insecurity. They know if Nnamdi Kanu is outside, in two minutes, this nonsense will stop,” Kanu asserted, his words dripping with conviction.

He further extended a promise of tranquility to the troubled region, boldly proclaiming, “Anybody involved in any form of violence in the South-East in the name of IPOB, let me come out of this nonsense, this mess, only two minutes, I guarantee you, and there will be peace in the South-East.”

Prior to his impassioned declaration, Kanu lamented his treatment while in the custody of the DSS, alleging mistreatment and expressing fears of a conspiracy to orchestrate his demise behind bars. The IPOB leader, detained since his extradition in June 2021 and facing charges of treasonable felony, painted a grim picture of his confinement, echoing the sentiment that justice had been compromised in his case.
