Group Announces ‘One Million March’ in Aba Over Detention of Nnamdi Kanu
A coalition of pro-Biafra supporters has announced plans for a mass protest in Aba, Abia State, calling for the release of detained Nnamdi Kanu.
The group, operating under the name *Coalition of Lovers of Freedom*, said it will hold what it describes as a “One Million March” on March 12, 2026.
According to a flyer circulating on social media, participants are expected to gather in Aba for what organisers say will be a peaceful demonstration.
The flyer calls on supporters to mobilise widely for the protest.
“1 Million March for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Freedom – Aba – 12th March 2026,” the message reads, urging supporters to converge in the city and demand the release of the separatist leader.
Nnamdi Kanu, who heads the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been in the custody of the Nigerian government since his rearrest in 2021. His return to Nigeria that year followed a controversial operation that authorities have not fully detailed.
His detention has continued to fuel agitation among supporters, particularly across Nigeria’s South-East region. Pro-Biafra groups have previously organised protests and enforced sit-at-home actions while demanding his release.
Security agencies have repeatedly warned against unlawful gatherings linked to Biafra-related activities, citing security risks.
It remains uncertain whether authorities will permit the planned march in Aba or move to restrict it.
