Video: Heavy Gunshots Rock Abuja as Robbers Attack Apo Resettlement, One Killed, Others Injured

Panic gripped residents of the Apo Resettlement area in Abuja on Sunday night as heavy gunfire erupted during a robbery attack that left one person dead and two others injured. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that its operatives quickly responded and successfully foiled the robbery attempt around 10:30 PM in the Zone E Extension of the community.

According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the incident began when a commercial motorcycle rider placed a distress call reporting intense gunshots in the area. Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer of Apo Division, CSP Uchenna Igwebuike, dispatched his Ambush and Surveillance Teams to the scene, where they engaged the armed assailants in a fierce gun battle. A reinforcement team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Isyaku Sharu, later arrived and overwhelmed the attackers, forcing them to flee into nearby hills.

Three individuals were rescued from the scene with varying degrees of injuries, while a light green Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 620 AU, belonging to one of the victims, was recovered. All the injured were rushed to Sahad Hospital in Apo Resettlement, where one of the victims was later pronounced dead.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured residents of the Command’s continued efforts to safeguard the community. A joint manhunt involving police personnel and local vigilantes is currently ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

The public is urged to report anyone seen with gunshot wounds or suspicious injuries to the nearest police station or through the emergency lines 08032003913 or 08028940883. Authorities are also calling on residents to stay vigilant and support law enforcement efforts to curb criminal activity in the capital.
