Video: “Don’t Call Me President – Especially When Mr. President Is Around,” Dangote Tells MC at Lekki Port Road Inauguration
Billionaire businessman and Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, delivered a light-hearted correction during the inauguration of the Lekki Sea Port Access Road on June 5, when the event’s Master of Ceremonies introduced him as the “President of Dangote Group” in the presence of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Taking the podium after the introduction, Dangote smiled as he addressed the slip:
“Mr MC, for your attention — next time, when Mr President is around, my own title is ‘Chairman’, not ‘President’. Whether with a small p or tiny little p, don’t call me president o. Thank you.”
The comment drew laughter from the crowd, including dignitaries and government officials present at the ceremony. Dangote then turned to President Tinubu and added with a chuckle:
“I’m sorry sir, he called me president. I didn’t allow him to do so, sir.”
The moment added a touch of humour to the formal occasion, as the federal government officially opened the newly constructed access road to the Lekki Deep Sea Port — a major infrastructure project in which the Dangote Group is a key stakeholder.
