Man Who Jumped from Three-Storey Building Not Our Student – UNIZIK

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has debunked reports circulating on social media claiming that a student of the institution died after jumping from a three-storey building near the campus. In a statement issued by the university’s Chief Safety Officer, Ken Chukwurah, the institution clarified that the deceased was not a student, but a 28-year-old electrician identified as Kenneth Oyeaka Rapuchukwu, from Aguleri.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Seat of Wisdom Lodge, located near Royal Kitchen Junction in Ifite, a residential area close to UNIZIK’s main gate. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud thud before finding the victim’s body on the ground in a pool of blood. According to accounts, Rapuchukwu allegedly jumped headfirst from the third floor of the building after consuming a suspected illicit substance.

Preliminary investigations by the university’s Safety Department suggest that Rapuchukwu and his roommate, identified only as Chibuzor, were under the influence of the same substance at the time of the incident. Chukwurah noted that Chibuzor was found incoherent in their room shortly after the fall and has since been taken into custody by the police at B-Division Station to aid in further investigations.

The university emphasized that initial claims linking the deceased to the institution were false and likely contributed to the panic and confusion online. Rapuchukwu’s body has been deposited at Amaku mortuary, and authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
