US Lawmaker Proposes Constitutional Amendment for Trump’s Third Term
A U.S. congressman has introduced a resolution seeking to amend the Constitution and allow former President Donald Trump to serve a third term. Representative Andy Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, is pushing for a change that would permit a president to hold office three times but limit consecutive terms to two.
The proposal challenges the 22nd Amendment, which was ratified in 1951 and currently restricts U.S. presidents to two terms. Ogles argues that Trump is uniquely capable of addressing the country’s challenges and should be given the opportunity to serve beyond the existing limit.
In a statement to the media on Thursday, Ogles defended his resolution, stating that Trump “has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness.” He emphasized that the amendment would ensure the continuation of what he described as Trump’s necessary leadership.
The idea of a third term for Trump has been a recurring topic of discussion. During a closed-door meeting with House Republicans last year, Trump was reported to have joked about serving beyond two terms. However, sources present at the event told Fox News Digital that his remarks were not serious.
Ogles’ proposed amendment would require significant political support to advance, needing approval from two-thirds of both chambers of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of the states.
