Unknown Gunmen Target, Kill Respected Lawyer, Victor Onwubiko in Imo State
Renowned legal practitioner Barrister Victor Onwubiko fell victim to unknown gunmen in Imo State on Saturday night. The incident occurred as he was returning to his residence at Abia State University, Uturu.
The tragic event unfolded along the Okigwe/Uturu road between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday, February 10, during a notable kidnapping incident. Sources reveal that Onwubiko, based in Okigwe town, Imo State, was ambushed and fatally shot by the assailants.
The area has witnessed a concerning surge in kidnappings and killings, despite the presence of heavy security agents. An insider shared, “There have been series of kidnappings and killings along the road.”
Henry Okoye, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident, stating, “We are on top of the situation, I am going to issue a press statement on it.”
This tragic event follows a recent wave of violence in Imo State, where four individuals were killed by gunmen during an attack on Point of Sale (POS) operators on January 29, 2024. Eyewitnesses reported that among the victims were two policemen on duty at Ohii junction along the Owerri – Orlu Road.
A video of the incident circulating on social media showed the lifeless bodies of the victims. Anyaeri Bright, a Facebook user, affirmed that two policemen and two civilians lost their lives in this brazen attack.
