Unknown Gunmen Kill Two in Uga, Anambra Police Launch Manhunt

In a harrowing incident on the evening of December 28, 2023, Unknown Gunmen infiltrated Anambra State from a neighboring state, leaving two police personnel dead in their wake. The Anambra State Police Command has since initiated a rigorous manhunt to apprehend the assailants.

The assailants, disguised in military attire and seemingly on a kidnap mission, encountered two armed police officers who had advanced ahead of a convoy to alleviate traffic congestion. A firefight ensued as the officers approached, prompting the criminals to flee. Quick response from a police-led mobile Forward Operating Base ensured the recovery of a Lexus SUV used by the gang. Additionally, an improvised explosive device found in the vehicle was successfully defused, and an AK-47 RIFLE belonging to one of the fallen officers was recovered.

CP Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police, who declared the weekend and Christmas holidays as special working days, praised the relentless efforts of the police personnel in securing Anambra State. Despite the tragic loss from the Enugu State Command, he urged the force to draw inspiration from their fallen colleagues’ bravery.

Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased officers and the Enugu State Police Command, CP Adeoye vowed that their sacrifices would not be in vain. He called on Anambra State Police to intensify their efforts, ensuring the use of technology to track down the criminals responsible for the attack on law enforcement.

While encouraging the citizens not to succumb to fear, CP Adeoye reassured the public that security measures were being enhanced to safeguard the state. DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, conveyed this information in a statement released on December 28, 2023, emphasizing the collective effort needed to overcome this security challenge.
