A family of seven has been killed in a late-night attack in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano metropolis, after unknown assailants broke into their home.
The victims were identified as Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children: Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam, aged about one and a half years. The attack occurred on Friday at their residence in Dorayi Gidan Kwari, where the assailants reportedly used dangerous weapons.
Residents said the incident has shaken the neighbourhood. Kabiru Ibrahim, a local resident, said the scale of the violence had left many people struggling to understand what happened.
“We are still trying to come to terms with this tragedy. No one knows who carried out the attack or why an entire household was targeted,” he said.
The bodies were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident. The police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered a full investigation.
According to him, the Criminal Investigation Department has begun inquiries to identify and arrest those responsible.
“The command extends its condolences to the family and the residents of Dorayi Chiranchi. An investigation is ongoing, and we are committed to ensuring that those behind this crime are brought to justice,” Kiyawa said.
