UNILAG Elects Acting Female Vice Chancellor
The Senate of University of Lagos, UNILAG, has elected a woman, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola as the institution’s acting Vice Chancellor.
Ogunsola polled 135 votes to beat her closest challenger, Prof. Ben Oghojafor who polled 31 votes at the election held during the senate meeting of the institution on Monday.
She is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services). Born in 1958, Ogunsola is a professor of medical microbiology. She obtained her first degree from University of Ife. She got a master’s degree from College of Medicine, University of Lagos, then proceeded for her doctorate at University of Wales between 1992–97.
The University was thrown into crisis after the former Vice Chancellor, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe was sacked by the Governing Council led by Dr. Wale Babalakin. Babalakin has claimed that Ogundipe was sacked based on allegations of mismanagement of the University’s finance. The federal government last week suspended Babalakin and constituted a visitation panel to look into the crisis in the institution.
