UNILAG Faces Setback as Convocation Gowns Stolen Ahead of 54th Graduation Ceremony

A bus transporting the University of Lagos (UNILAG) post-graduate academic gowns has been vandalized, causing a major setback just days before the institution’s 54th convocation ceremony.

The gowns, which were duly paid for and scheduled for distribution to the eager graduating students, now find themselves at the center of an unfortunate incident.

The university is set to confer first-class degree certificates upon 340 graduands during the upcoming convocation ceremony. However, this celebration has been marred by the recent development.

Confirmation of the incident came when an affected graduate shared a screenshot of a message received from the institution’s management. Having paid N15,000 for the convocation gown, the graduate was informed of the suspension of gown distribution due to the theft and vandalism.

In the message, the graduate received the disheartening news: “Dear graduate, we regret to inform you that the distribution of SPGS academic gowns is now suspended. Sadly, the remaining gowns were stolen, and our bus vandalized this afternoon.”

Expressing frustration, the graduate captioned the screenshot, stating, “I paid 15k for a convocation gown yesterday, and this is what UNILAG just sent me. This country is not a real place.”

As of now, the university authorities have not issued a response to the incident, leaving the affected graduates and the public awaiting further information on how the institution plans to address this unforeseen challenge.
