UK Returnee Dies on Way to Wedding in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash
A woman who recently returned from the United Kingdom to attend a wedding in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has died in a road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The crash occurred on Monday evening at about 6 p.m. near the Christopher University axis of the highway, according to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).
TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi said the victim was travelling in a white Toyota Camry with two other occupants when the vehicle collided with a moving truck. He attributed the accident to excessive speed based on eyewitness accounts.
Three people were involved in the crash — one male and two females. The UK returnee died at the scene, while the other two occupants sustained injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that the two female passengers had just arrived in Nigeria from the United Kingdom and were heading from Lagos to Abeokuta for a wedding ceremony at the time of the incident.
The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Redeemed Hospital morgue. The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital and Redeemed Hospital for treatment.
TRACE expressed condolences to the families affected and urged motorists to avoid speeding, warning of its risks.
The incident comes about three months after boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a crash along the same section of the expressway.
