23-Year-Old Doctor Dies by Suicide After Repeated Disputes with Family Over Cat Adoption
A 23-year-old doctor has been found dead in what authorities in Hyderabad, India, are treating as a suspected suicide linked to ongoing disagreements within her household over her decision to keep a pet cat.
The deceased, identified as T. Princy, also known as Shreshtha, was discovered in her room on the evening of March 20, 2026, at her family residence in Alwal. She had been living with her mother and grandmother.
Police reports indicate that the dispute began after Princy brought a cat into the home several weeks earlier. Family members reportedly objected to the pet, citing health concerns after she began experiencing persistent cold and cough symptoms. The disagreements are said to have escalated into repeated arguments in the weeks leading up to the incident.
On the day of the incident, her mother and grandmother had stepped out of the house. Upon their return, they found her unresponsive and alerted neighbours, who contacted the authorities.
Officers from the local police unit responded to the scene and later transferred the body to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination. A case of suspicious death has been opened based on a complaint filed by her mother.
Preliminary findings suggest the possibility of domestic conflict, although investigators say they are considering all angles as inquiries continue.
Princy had recently completed her medical degree and was preparing for postgraduate entrance examinations while also working toward obtaining her medical licence.
