U.S. Records Expose Wike’s Secret $2 Million Florida Mansion Under Wife, Children’s Names
Documents obtained by West Africa Weekly have revealed that Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, secretly acquired a $2 million mansion in Florida, United States, in March 2025, concealing ownership by registering the property in the names of his wife, Justice Eberechi Wike, and their three children, Joaquin, Jazmyne, and Jordan.
According to official U.S. property records cited in the report, the residence is located at 113 Spring Creek Lane, Winter Springs, Florida, and is a two-storey building constructed in 1997 on a 4,076-square-foot lot. The property features multiple bedrooms, a garage, and two dedicated parking spaces. A source familiar with the transaction told West Africa Weekly that Wike deliberately excluded his name from the purchase, instead using his family members’ identities to avoid scrutiny regarding asset declaration requirements and the source of funds.
The report also disclosed that Justice Eberechi Wike, a serving judicial officer, is a registered member of the U.S. Democratic Party, in direct violation of Nigeria’s Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers, which bars judges from partisan political affiliation. Her involvement in the Florida property acquisition further raises ethical questions under the same code, which requires judges to avoid impropriety or the appearance of impropriety.
The revelations have sparked concerns of illicit enrichment and potential cross-border money laundering, as Wike’s official salary and allowances amount to approximately N7.8 million (about $5,000) annually, far below the $2 million value of the U.S. property. The report suggested the purchase could breach Nigeria’s Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
This development comes amid a series of controversies surrounding the FCT minister. In July, Peoples Gazette reported that Wike approved 33 Abuja land allocations to relatives and associates, including a N400 million plot awarded to his 90-year-old father, Joshua Nlemanya Wike. Other beneficiaries included cousins, nephews, and close family members. Earlier in April, six of Wike’s siblings were also reported to have benefited from land allocations in Guzape II. Additionally, he has faced allegations of a \$3.6 billion FCT land scheme allegedly facilitated through his son, Joaquin.
The purchase also raises questions about the role of U.S. authorities, as the deal was concluded shortly after the U.S. Embassy in Abuja publicly criticized Nigerian officials for corruption and reckless spending. The West Africa Weekly report suggests that American regulators may have overlooked the inflow of millions in questionable funds into the U.S. real estate market through a serving Nigerian cabinet minister.
